Who is the level 2 electrical installation course for?

This C&G 2365 Level 2 Diploma Course will allow you to develop and practice the skills required to become an electrician. This course is designed for individuals who have already completed our Domestic Electrician Course (or equivalent), before progressing onto our Level 3 2365 Electrical Installation Course.

The Level 2 electrical installation course combines online learning at home with hands-on training at our centre. By offering as much of the course online as possible, you can fit your studies around other commitments and complete the course at your own pace.

This course is the second stage in becoming a fully qualified electrician and builds on the knowledge and skills learned during the first stage. You will cover elements that are transferable towards the Level 3 NVQ 2357 qualification.

Level 2 electrician course overview

City & Guilds Level 2 2365 Electrical Installation Course

The full title of this qualification is City and Guilds 2365-02 Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures).

This course is designed to build on the skills and knowledge gained from our Domestic Electrician Course. You will have completed parts of the Level 2 2365 in the earlier course, and will build on this during this next stage.

The Level 2 electrician course will deepen your understanding and enhance the practical skills acquired during your initial training. It will also delve further into the science of electrical installations as well as further increase your knowledge of health & safety, electrical industry regulations and communication within the building services industry.

Course Structure

Online Learning

This part of your level 2 electrician course will cover the following subjects; Health and Safety in Building Services Engineering, Principles of Electrical Science, Electrical Installations Technology and Understanding How to Communicate in Building Services Engineering. This part of the course is entirely self-led allowing you to fit it in around your schedule. The assessments for this part of the course are taken using City and Guilds remote invigilation service, letting you take the exam in the comfort of your own home (please note that Mac OS, Chrome OS and iOS devices are not supported by the remote invigilation service). Upon purchase of the course you will gain access to the online content immediately.

In Centre Learning

This focuses on the elements of the qualification where there is no substitute for hands-on learning. You will primarily focus on installations during the 10 day in person training, with an emphasis on hand tool use, containment; including trunking, conduit and cable tray, and different types of cable such as armoured and PVC singles. Towards the end of the course you will complete the practical assessments that contribute towards the overall qualification.

We would strongly recommend working through the 2 online modules ‘Health and Safety in Building Services Engineering’ and ‘Electrical Installations Technology’ before attending the in-centre part of your course.

The level 2 diploma in electrical installations will consist of home, online study and 2 weeks of in-person training at our centre.

The exams

During this course, you will undergo various assessments, as detailed below:

Health & Safety – 2 exams

1. You will complete one online multiple-choice exam consisting of 25 questions. You will have 40 minutes to complete this assessment.

2. A practical assessment involving 6 tasks to demonstrate your understanding of Health & Safety across diverse workplace environments. The 6 assessments will take a total time of 7 hours. This will be completed during your 2-week in-centre training.

Principles of Electrical Science – 1 exam

One online multiple-choice exam with 40 questions. You will have 90 minutes to complete this assessment.

Electrical Installations Technology – 1 exam

One online multiple-choice exam consisting of 40 questions. You will have 75 minutes to complete this assessment. (Open book exam)

Installation of Wiring Systems & Enclosures – 1 exam

One practical assessment where you will demonstrate your ability to install and test wiring systems. The assessment will take 10 hours in total. This will be completed during your 2-week in-centre training.

Communication within Building Services Engineering – 1 exam

One online multiple-choice exam comprising 20 questions. You will have 40 minutes to complete this assessment.

You need to have completed our Domestic Electrician Course, or successfully passed our L2 2365 skills scan, to enrol onto this course. The skills scan will help ensure you are at the right level to successfully pass this course.
