City & Guilds 2382-22 Home Learning 18th Edition Course
This qualification is officially known as the Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018.
When completing any domestic or commercial installation work you must follow the most up to date Wiring Regulations, which this course will help you gain a greater understanding of. You must also hold this qualification if you are looking to join a Government Approved Part P Scheme Provider, such as NICEIC or NAPIT.
The IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations 2018 is a large brown book, full of regulations that electricians must follow. The Wiring Regulations can sometimes seem a little overwhelming, however, as electrical training specialists, we will ensure that you understand the key chapters and appendices, and how to reference the regulations prior to taking your exam.
The 18th Edition course will cover all the sections of the book listed below:
Part 1 – Scope, object and fundamental principles
What BS7671 covers, the objective of the regulations and the basic principles of the regulations
Part 2 – Definitions
A detailed list of definitions used throughout the book
Part 3 – Assessment of general characteristics
Covers characteristics that the electrical installation is to be compared against
Part 4 – Protection for safety
This deals with the technical requirements for protection from various effects, such as electric shock
Part 5 – Selection and erection of equipment
Covers the technical aspects of selecting the type of equipment and how it is to be installed
Part 6 – Inspection and testing
States the requirements for the different types of inspection and testing
Part 7 – Special installations or locations
Locations which contain a greater risk than standard locations
Part 8 – Functional Requirements
Prosumer’s low voltage electrical installations

Tables and charts containing information relevant to other sections of the book

Course Duration
This course is an online learning course comprised of 12 learning modules and assessments to track your progress. The course has a recommended 20 hours of learning time.

The exams
Online multiple choice exam consisting of 60 questions which you have 2 hours to complete. (Open book exam).
The 18th Edition exam will be sat using City & Guilds remote invigilation service, meaning you can sit the exam at home and you do not need to travel to our training centre. Click here for more information about remote invigilation, or watch a video here.
The exam times are typically 08.30, 11.30 and 16.30 and City and Guilds require 5 working days notice in order to schedule the exam and arrange the invigilator. Please note Mac OS, Chrome OS and iOS devices are not supported.

What book do I need for this course?

Why do I need to update to the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations?
All new installations must follow the most recent edition of BS7671 Wiring Regulations. In order to ensure you are meeting the latest requirements, it is recommended you upgrade to the 18th Edition as you may be working to out of date regulations. If you are a registered electrician with a Competent Person Scheme, you will be required to upgrade to the 18th Edition, if you haven’t done so already, before your renewal with the Scheme Provider.
Is the 18th Edition required to join a Competent Persons Scheme?
Yes, you are required to hold the 18th Edition qualification in order to join a competent person scheme and become a registered electrician.
Is this the most up to date 18th Edition qualification?
Yes, as of 1st April 2022, this course and qualification will include the new Amendment 2.
How long do I have to complete this course?
There is no time limit to complete this course, you can take as long as you need to work through the content.
