FAQs
Why is the 5357 replacing the 2357 NVQ?
The 2357 is quite an old qualification and the industry has recognised that many changes have occurred since its inception and want to modernise and align all recognised training routes with current industry standards. It will also align the industry qualifications for apprentices, experienced workers and competence-based qualifications for adult learners.
Do I need to be employed before starting the 5357 qualification?
Yes. You will need to be working within the industry and have access to suitable electrical installation work in order to complete this qualification.
How long do I have to complete the course?
You will have a maximum of 36 months to complete the course.
What is the AM2P?
The AM2P assessment is an end-point assessment taken by anyone who completes the NVQ electrical installation course. It is the last part of the NVQ diploma and consists of an assessment that takes place over 3 days at an independent NET centre.
Can I apply for an ECS Gold Card with the Level 3 NVQ qualification?
Yes, provided you have also attained your 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and ECS Health and Safety qualifications.
Can I sign off my own electrical work with this qualification?
The only way to sign off your own notifiable electrical work is to notify your local building control or to join a Part P scheme provider like the NICEIC.
What is an evidence portfolio?
You will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence that showcases your knowledge, skills and experience. The evidence will be uploaded and collated in your e-portfolio, an online platform enabling you to organise evidence and monitor your progress through the course. Your assessor will offer feedback through the e-portfolio so you can manage your evidence easily.
